|
Guess what! Our man, K3YAZ - Frank, decided to join the 7-Land group, found the call W7YAZ available on the list and applied for and, voilá, he received it yesterday! Good deal, Frank. Now to learn to say it. He only messed up once this morning on the 3725 group! |

The RST Hamfest
was a success and we had a good turnout of AMers. WB7AM - Bob
motored down on his bike and we finally had an eyeball with him.

Here is my only
acquisitiion from the hamfest, $15 and I might have got it for less,
but... It's Shure KMart Special with a noise cancelling mike you
can still buy for $130. Someone had built a preamp for it, and
maybe it was used for that. I replaced the defunct element with an
electret capacitance mike and it needs some tweaking still.
Anyway, I like it! Guess what the screens are for on the shelf

Here's that T-150 of K3YAZ's that now has a new home. W1KSZ - Richard picked it up today at our Corona de Tucson meeting. We had a nice group today with WA1KNX - Deano coming to Dave's at the last minute and then W7MD - Doc Damon showed at Argenziano's for lunch. We had a good time. How about the lamp that Frank made for Dave...nice! |

A while back, K3YAZ - Frank had horse traded with me and ended up with a nice HQ-145 I had picked up at the RST Swap Meet a couple years ago. He tweaked it and installed one of those after market frequency displays that has the Hammarlund logo and fits where the clock fits since it didn't have a clock. He said he was thinking about selling it, so I bought it back and it works great. Then, Frank came over the other day and aligned my HQ-180 and I decided to change my shelves so I could get it off the rolling box and off the floor. There it is, paired with my Valiant and it's working good too. Thanks Frank! I think my corner of the room (the blivit) is maxed out.) |

Meet KN7MUT - Buster, Protector of the N6YW Residence. There is a great pup! Anyway, N6YW - Billy has, over the last several weeks, been remodeling his shack and decided to have an open house today. In addition in seeing his new shack, we were treated to pizza and drinks. He showed us his collection of the Collins Operators QSL cards and we were given a royal tour of the place, including his overly filled garage where he displayed some of his junk. There were a couple of his special line of guitar amplifiers called "Red Jones". They were very nice, indeed. If you're interested, make sure you are well heeled enough to stand the freight, as I said, very nice. And don't forget the "Pajamas". Look for the special Antenna Paint, a product that is pretty hard to find on the market these days. I don't think even MFJ handles it. Very rare indeed. |

We did it again? We had another meeting down in Corona de Tucson at AJ7O's QTH and ended up with a fine lunch at the Italian joint there. Don and W7MD - Doc showed up a bit late, but we had a good time, never-the-less. Don has retrieved a couple of pices of antique funiture that belonged to his father & grandfather. I just had to take a picture. |

I had a nice QSO on
40 with N0GXM - Scott up in Sedalia, Colorado this morning and looking at
his QRZ site, I found a couple nice pictues of his mobile setup and this
1/2 picture of him and his equipment. I asked him to send me a
suitable picture for the gallery, but in the meantime, I though I'd have a
bit of fun with this one. |

Yeah, we did it again. We motored (as they used to say in the home town newspaper in the gossip column) down to Corona de Tucson for a pre-Christmas meeting with AJ7O - Dave at his QTH and then went over to Argenziano's Italian place and had lunch. As Gordo used to say, "If you REALLY like Mexican, I mean REALLY like Mexican food, come to Gordo's Cafeteria", only in this case it's Italian food and it's actually very good, unlike Gordo's. Anyway, we had a good time of it, as usual. Meeting N6YW - Billy and myself at the door was Dave in his Santa cap and in good spirits, as you can see. We had K0ETD - Ron, W8VG - George and K3YAZ - Frank. WA1KNX - Dean met us at the restaurant. We thought that W7MD - Doc Damon was gonna' make it, but he had medical appointments to deal with. Hey, W8VG - George presented me and Billy with some home brew Christmas beer. Good deal! |

- FiFi, the B-29 stationed out of Addison Texas, is on static display
today. W0GZV - Loney has set up a portable set of B-29 radio
equipment for operation and display at the site of Fifi. I have made
several contacts on 20 Meters, specifically 14.267 MHz, AM, however, there
is a contest today and operators on SSB are not into protocol under
the circumstances. W5XJ - Grant is calling CQ from there and is
getting no takers. I can hear that he managed to contact W7KDL -
Richard in Phoenix. |

We almost made it a month since last meeting, however, K3YAZ - Frank was delivering a radio to AJ7O - Dave and so we had an impromptu meeting and lunch at, where else, Argenziano's Italian place in Corona de Tucson. When I walked in, this 1939 two band receiver was playing music of the era from Green Valley. What a nice old art-deco receiver. |

I heard Mike calling from up in Colorado and went back to him. I don't know where everyone else was this morning. The only one on was XE2/W7ISJ - Joe. Anyway, Mike and I had a couple of QSOs over the next hour or so. Here's a shot of his shack with his Home Brew 813 rig...K0ETD, how about that? This morning, I talked to him on his rice box and later, his Johnson Desk Kilowatt. I hope conditions stretch out to Mack, Colorado again soon. Mike is getting set up after moving recently from Gunnison, CO. |

Well,
we did it again. A bunch of us motored down to Corona de Tucson to
see AJ7O - Dave and help him with his latest acquisition.
Somehow the case on his newly acquired NC-300 had been dented in the
corner just enough to keep it from being removed. With a hammer and
a piece of wood, N6YW - Billy whacked it just right and we got it
apart. In celebration, we went to We
also got to have an eyeball with K7HSG who came over with K7EWE -
Jim. He lives way over there not from from Jim. We'll look
forward to hearing more from John. |

Took a trip
down to visit AJ7O - Dave 
in Corona de Tucson Sunday afternoon and after checking out his new
NC-300 (no photo yet), I stopped over and saw W1KSZ - Richard 
whom we haven't heard much from since he sold his Valiant. Anyway,
he had purchased a new CW key and he twisted my arm and insisted that I
buy his Vibroplex Vibrocube. This guy weighs six (6) pounds and
you don't push it around. I actually made a couple of CW contacts
on 20 mtrs with it. Gee, maybe I'll get up about 1:30 AM in the
mornings and work 40 CW with Dave. Nah...I'm kidding. You
should see the beautiful chrome plated paddles that Dick made for his
new key. Man! They're pretty! |

Look who went to the RST Hamfest this past Saturday. I used his picture for the iPhone/Android friendly link to the hamfest. Click on his picture and it'll take you there. We had a great time there and you'll see lots of pictures and especially the AM group at the bottom. Afterwards, we had lunch at the Itailian restaurant in Corona de Tucson and then went over to AJ7O's QTH to take a look at his latest behemoth acquisition described previously. Some of these guys are not so active, but, they're AMers, OK. The last two pictures were taken by W7KDL - Dick. |
