Hi !  My name is John Slusser and I grew up on a farm near Casey, IL, started my education in a one-room school (Oak Point), graduated from Casey High School in 1957, spent 22 years in the USAF, retired, worked as an Electronics Engineer with Hughes Aircraft and Raytheon  for 18 years and retired again.  I became a partner in Eastern Illinois Internet service and we sold it after three years.  I worked over a year for DaVinci Research  here in Tucson.  We (DaVinci Research) started a new company,  Cardio Pneumatics Research, LLC (CPR) and now, it has evolved to another company, FSNC, and I'm a partner in that venture.    I've been an amateur radio operator (FUN!) since 1984, and I live in Tucson, Arizona with my bride & partner for over 50 years, Shirley Malcom from Martinsville, IL.  My amateur radio call is: WD7F.

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.  What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.  When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.  You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

~~ The late Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931 – 2005 ~~~~~

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

By the way, this site is pretty graphical and requires some

patience or a fast connection.  There's some good stuff and
it's worth the wait...(IMHO)!

AMATEUR RADIO

What is Amateur Radio?  I could probably answer that question, but I think that you should click <here> and you can find out all about it from the ARRL (American Radio Relay League).   They're very informative and have a lot of neat links to follow.

Personally, my favorite mode of operation is SSTV (Slow Scan TV)...an amateur radio mode that allows the sending and receiving of graphical images.  Listed below, you can find a link to a gallery of some of the pictures that I have sent and received. And that's not all; I've included some of my favorite pages to visit....some are quite "kewl "!

IC-756 DISPLAY PROBLEM

My ICOM IC-756 display had been deteriorating for a couple
of years because of lines that had finally blocked out the entire
bottom of the display where the pan adapter display and
function buttons features were located.  ICOM had decided
not to support the display so my radio was becoming useless.

I discovered that PA7FA - Richard Rosenberger in the
Netherlands had developed an LCD replacement display.  I sent
the front panel of the IC-756 to Richard and he replaced the
display and returned the panel in quick order.  Even though the
LCD display is not as pretty as the bright blue and crisp original,
it works fine and will afford years of additional life to your rig.

The Big-Bad Master Sergeant

This was taken near Kunsan, Korea sometime in the summer of 1977.

Dang!  I was still pretty skinny.

Here we are!  Valentines Dance in the Martinsville, Illinois High School gym.  I had just arrived home from basic training at Lackland AFB, TX.  Not long after this was taken we were married in beautiful down town Shawneetown, Illinois.  We were married on 18 February 1959.  Where did these skinny young people go?  Where did fifty years go?

Note: For our 47th anniversary, we went out to eat at Saguaro Corners, a medium priced restaurant, and had a very nice meal.  The $70 tab, which included the tip, was just $15 less than my $85 monthly pay as an A3C in 1959.

Our second car, a 1952 Pontiac Chieftan,  very similar to this one was a big car with a Straight-8 and a Hydramatic transmission.  We drove it until it just barely made it to Luby Chevrolet where we traided it.

Our first car, 1 1948 Chrysler New Yorker Coupe!
<See the 1946-47 Chrysler Brochure>

This is a dead ringer for our first near new car, a 1950 Corvair 500,  that had only 500 miles on it when we bought it.  Sure was nice not to drive a worn out vehicle.

Next was a beautiful 1961 Corvair Monza with 4 on the floor and 110 horsepower.  This one I really loved.  When I got orders to Okinawa, we traded it for a 1955 Pontiac to get rid of the payments.

This is a 1955 Pontiac Catalina that we totally wore out, finally trading it for a 1963 Pontiac Catalina.  It lasted while I was in Okinawa, took us to New Mexico and managed to last through my tour in Vietnam.

Man!  We're living it up now in Apple Valley, CA.  This 63 Pontiac was beautiful and look at our mobile home! This one did pretty good, it lasted until we went to England in 1971.
