MIKE COLLYMORE IS A FRIEND

Mike Collymore is
a friend of mine. I say
“is”, not “was” because he will be my friend forever.
I first met Mike in 1975 when we both were in the United States Air
Force stationed at Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix.
I can honestly say that I immediately liked Mike when I met him and
I never had the slightest doubt about it. Over the recent
years, we had discovered that we both worked at the same bases around the
world and knew many of the same people. Yet, it wasn’t until 1987 that I
met Mike again. How surprised
was I when I discovered that Mike was working for Hughes Aircraft Company
also and we were both “Mavericks”? That
is an inside joke. Those of you a
little older…like me... will understand when I venture to say that like
Will Rogers, Mike “Never met a man he didn’t like!”
What’s more, everyone liked Mike Collymore. And, we all miss him. Mike dearly loved
his beautiful wife, JoFrances, he loved his family and his friends.
It was apparent in his actions.
Mike believed in serving his community, both military and civilian.
Mike volunteered to help people and did so very adeptly.
Mike loved people, music, libation and repast. There was pleasure
to be derived from his company. Mike lived the
words of an old and simple song another recently departed friend of mine
sang in a music contest at our high school more than 50 years ago. This is a verse
from “Air from Comus” by Thomas Augustine Arne, 1710 - 1778. I
love life, and I want to live. And Mike did.

Here are a few random snapshots that were taken mostly during Mike's long
and valiant fight against the monster that took him. There are
pictures of good friends Dave & Pam Ferguson and Mike's buddy Sherman.
Sherman was their mail man and not only did he bring the mail, he looked out
for Mike often during his rounds. Sherman is a good friend,
indeed. Mikes picture at the top was taken before his long battle
began. I'm still looking for some good pictures to post here.
Oh...and of course, there's Sugar! Thanks to Dave & Pam, Jim Wise and JoFrances, several more pictures have been posted.
