The 60th Reunion of the 1957 Class of Casey High School met on the afternoon of 2 September 2017 at the residence of Bob and Sandy Cochonour.  Very special thanks go to Bob and Sandy for preparing the reunion location and opening their home to the class.   It all went perfectly and it was enjoyed by all. Thank you very much!

Twenty two classmates attended the afternoon meeting and five more attended Richard's Farm.  We had a nice group.

The reunion was opened by our MC, Roger Smith, who welcomed the group and then turned to the Reverand Gene Southard for the blessing.  Gene and Kay Grissom Hunsaker lead a memorial to the 38 members of our class who have passed.

Lt Col Paul Stephen led the class with the and read the names of those of the class who served in the military. A total of 25 classmates served making it nearly 65% of the men serving and one woman as follows:  Donna Hanners Alexander - Army Nurse, Carl Anderson - Navy, Harold black - Army, Jack burson - Navy, Oscar Chapman - Army, Larry Clingingsmith - Air National Guard, Bob Cochonour - Air National Guard, Bob Cox - Air National Guard, Tony Cutright - Navy, Rocky Fox - Navy, John Haley - Army, Bill Haworth - Air force, Bob Hunt - Air Force, Bobby Kemper - Air Force, Francis Kemper - Army, Roger Lee - Navy, John Slusser - Air Force Retired, Paul Stephen - Air Force Retired, Jim Tedrick - Army, Ron Turner - Army, Larry Wilson - Navy and John Beeson - Marines.

Roger Smith then recognized the sole survivor of our class faculty, Mrs. Doris Lee, with whom we credit to our success in the understanding of English which has carried us through our lives. (Gee, did I say that right?) Thank you, Mrs. Lee, for all you have done for the students of Casey High School.

With that, we began the "Good of the Class" part of the program started off with Kay Smith Lingerfelt performing a reading of Red Skelton's "Receipe for a Perfect Marriage" followed by 33 one-liners from "So You Thought You Knew Everything", such as "Butterfiles taste with their feet."  Who'd of thunk it?

John Slusser read from a long forgotten <click picture> from an unknown class member who had met with a ragged gypsy in the autumn woods shortly before graduation which included such tidbits as: "Marlyn Sharp and Carol Heim were arrested last night by Chief of Police Bob Cochonour and Deputy Tom MCDanile on the charge of driving while intoxicated and driving without lights.  They denied they were intoxicated and they said they drove without lights because they liked it better that way!"

Each member of the class was given a sealed envelope when they arrived and told "Do no open until told to do so.", however, a few just couldn't stand it and opened theirs early, such as Kay Inskeep Cramer. Some people just can't follow instructions.

Eleanor Logue Evans had a list of the <click picture> of all the class members from thier senior year.  That was another item that was totally forgotten about.  As Eleanor called on each member, they were instructed to stand, open the envelope and read what was inside.  It was very funny, for the most part, and here's an example of what Patsy Wright had written: "I, Patsy Wright, being not too right nor bright, do hereby will all the troubles of dating two boys at once to Charolotte Owens; to Carol Henderson I will my typewriter with the hope she can pass more speed tests on it than I did.  Last but not least, I will my bookkeeping back to anyone who can finish the course and still be a sane person."

Some were afraid what might be in the envelope and opened early, as I said!  Shame on you guys!

Then, Bob Cochonour passed out several awards and special gifts to deserving class members.  John Slusser picked up the award for traveling the farthest all the way from Tucson, a pair of . The most great grand children was awarded to Bruce Finney who had 13 with one in the oven, winning by a over John & Shirley Slusser. He was prensented with a and some .  He needs it, chasing that many around.
The longest married went to Marsha Shafer Rue , too many years to count, maybe . Since it had been so long, the good towels were probably pretty worn out, so she was presented with some new ones.
The person having the most recent surgery, Larry Clingingsmith was given a box of , however, I'm not sure they'll work for Larry because he had oral surgery the day before!
The person who had the youngest child turned out to be Shirley Miller Husinga so she was presented with a 'binky' for her little boy! Congratulations, Shirley!  I believe she won the "Living Farthest South" warm award as well.

Of course, we had to award the "Living Farthest North" cold award which, by the way, caused some controversy as to whether Jean Brewer Breiner living in Springfield lived further North than Eleanor Logue in Champaign! Jeanie won the award by consensus.  I suppose we could have ran on it.
The School Spirit award was given to none other than Eleanor Logue who demonstrated that she still has it by doing the split!  Way to go Eleanor!  It's all that of course! What else could it be? She did it 5 years ago, why not now? I missed a photo opportunity when Eleanor told everyone about here metal "TO-GO" bucket that all of us should take with us when we dine out so that we won't be throwing those plastic containers away and contaminating the envoronment. Check out the "TO-GO" link, right Eleanor?
Paul Stephen turned out to be the last one discharged from the military, so Paul was, appropriately enough, awarded the Casey High School Hightest Military Honor, the VERY SILVER STAR,  just in case he didn't get one when he was in the Air Force!

Last but not least, I was instructed by our Reunion Chairman that we would NOT be presenting the "Most Recently Married" award this reunion because he and Sandy had been married a scant two years ago.  Well, the editor of this page thought that it was too important to overlook, so Bob and Sandy were presented with a sure fire necessity for newlyweds.  Look Closely:

With the fun and camaraderie finished, a Class Business meeting was held with Roger Smith presiding. After some discussion, it was voted to make the 60th Reunion our last official get-to-gether.  However, the residents of Casey are planning an informal meeting every two years, on the same Labor Day weekend at the discression of whomever takes on the task.  The next meeting is tentatively to be held at Bob and Sandy's with hamburgers, etc. on the menu.  Whomever comes will be welcomed. The tentative date will be on Saturday, August 31st, the weekend of Labor Day, Monday, 2 September 2019.  Hope to see you there.

Paul Stephen, being a co-signee for the remainder of the Class Treasury led a discussion as to what to do with the money.  It was moved, seconded and voted to give the money to the Gene Weaver Fund for Children who need assistance for school events and might not have the necessary funds.  Somewhere in the vicinity of $630 reamained in the treasury.

To close the meeting, Rev Gene Southard gave the Benediction and all was completed.

With official business completed we gathered for the class picture.  We took the first picture of the class members followed by class members and spouses.  Then we noticed that Kay Inskeep Cramer was missing from the class picture. She had popped into the bathroom to fix her hair and makeup for the Class Picture.  Really, Kay?

After our meeting at Bob & Sandy's, we retired to Richard's for a meal.  There were a few folks that didn't make the afternoon get-to-gether but were there for the evening.  We had a total of 40 attend.  We had the room to ourselves and we ordered from the menu as we chose.  It was simpler that way.  Here are some pictures from that event and the rest of the pictures as well.  After the meal, a few of us returned to Bob & Sandy's for further visiting. There we were met by Joe & Jackie Cocnonour.  Joe entertained us with lots of anecdotes from his brother's class.  Hope to see you in a couple years.

I received this card from Shirley Snyder Wiza saying she couldn't be there.
